Leaves, branches, twigs and other yard debris have started to accumulate in Hoosier yards, and there are ways to get rid of these unwanted wastes without burning them. Mulching, composting and chipping dispose of yard waste without creating harmful smoke.

Jane Lichtenberg, who writes Star Watch in the Indianapolis Star, reminds us that a city ordinance requires us to shovel the snow and ice from the sidewalks. As a walker, I truly appreciate being able to walk on the sidewalks and I thank all who do clear their walks. Jane gives us the ordinance details.
