A few months ago I called some Yellow Book plumbers for what I thought was a fairly simple drain replacement that needed to occur from my kitchen sink to the basement. The estimate was $950. The plumber, from a major company you all would know, stated they stick to a book for pricing and he even admitted it was ridiculous. I was given a name by the commercial plumber on the QT for an independant plumber who did a great job for about $200. Sayles Plumbing and Heating 541-9014. He also retiled our bathroom for a good price.

Dial One will be losing our maintenance contract after quoting us a "lot" to "dig up the yard" to put a sewer clearaway in. With input from a friend we dug the holes and put 2 clearaways in the yard for a lot less. This was done as a favor to me as we are friends, however they do excellent work at the right price, just checkout Binkleys and The Meridian Grill to see the quality.

I had some HVAC problems last summer and a great friend owns the company called Precision Comfort Systems, they were here quickly and charged half the amount other companies quoted. They are wonderful and low cost. 867-2665

Another great Plumber is Atwell Plumbing, 773-6529. I know Jim Atwell, personally, and his company has always beat other prices for anyone whom I have sent his way.

We just had Short's painting paint most of the inside of our house. It wasn't cheap, but they did a wonderful job. We had some terribly damaged walls (fist size holes) and they did an amazing job of patching them. They spent hours caulking before they started painting and it made a huge difference.
