The News, Talk, Sights and Sounds of the Warfleigh Neighborhood

A young woman just rang my bell. Friday about 4:15. I answered because Calvin told me it was the neighbor.  It was a weird solicitor.  She handed me a can of glass/surface cleaner, but wanted to ask me questions about an unrelated product I'd never heard of. All while showing me some random business card which had nothing to do with either product or company she had mentioned.  She talked really fast about nothing that made sense. I told her I wasn't interested and she left in a silver mini van with a different driver. They drove right down Riverview without stopping at any other houses. That made me additionally suspicious. The whole incident left me feeling odd. Like they were scoping the place out.  Did anyone else receive a vistig from these folks??

We also got a visit, but it was a nice looking guy in his 20's, but still in a mini van. I assumed it was someone who knew my husband so I answered the door. This was probably around 2:00. He wanted to come in and tell me about blah blah blah after handing me the glass cleaner and a card, but I said I needed to sleep because I worked nights and he relented easily. I gave him back his cleaner and he left. It didn't particularly strike me as creepy. I figured they stopped because my car was in the driveway and they figured we would be home.

Thanks Amy,

Somehow makes me less nervous knowing I wasn't the only one. We were robbed a year ago and ever since, I've been a bit on edge.

They came to my house Friday afternoon, and I didn't answer. White man w/glasses driving the van. Blonde gal at my door. Saw them stop two doors down after leaving my place. Very weird...

They stopped by our home as well. It was the same young man described by Amy and the mini-van sat in our driveway. Both of our cars were in the driveway so I gathered they stopped because we were home. I didn't find it that odd other than noticing they drove away instead of trying any of the neighbor's homes who also had cars in driveways. Since we were both home and I didn't open the door at all to let them scope out the place, I dismissed it.

Weird that you're all Amys! I wonder if Amy Gunn got a visit as well?!
Did anyone call the police? Definitely a situation where a call to 911 is not out of line. If anything makes you uneasy, definitely call and they'll keep an eye out for suspicious behavior.

No solicitors here, but we did have a Jehovah's Witness come to our house last Thursday, asking us if we had found Jesus. We inquired as to how they lost Him and where they last saw Him, and offered to file a police report, but she declined.

I last saw him nailing shingle to a roof on Central.

Hey to everyone in the neighborhood:

We must always call the police when something like this happens. Shirley Purvitis, the North District liaison to our 'hood who comes to our WNA meetings, is emphatic that this kind of suspicious activity must be reported. According to her, the rule is:

If it is happening right when you call and you can still see the person, dial 911 (yes, 911)

If it happened at some other time, dial the non-emergency number That number is 327-3811. Post it where you can see it when you need it.

This information helps the police determine patterns and will encourage them to have more regular patrols where there are problems.
