The News, Talk, Sights and Sounds of the Warfleigh Neighborhood

This is more of a vent post, but curious to see if anyone else has ever had a similar experience.

I'm sure the issue is commonplace, that being public urination by the runners, one of whom felt it necessary to avoid the regularly placed porta-johns (approximately 1 / mile) and urinate in my yard.

Running a marathon doesn't give people carte blanche to urinate wherever they see fit, as it is illegal any other time.

I approached the runner who I witnessed urinate in my yard, concerned that him urinating in such a manner was not appropriate considering the family environment & neighborhood in which we live. Rather than admit the wrong & apologize, or at a minimum, recognize the inappropriateness and agree to use porta-johns in the future, he simply told me to "deal with it." Words were exchanged and he and subsequently threatened to bring his dog and "crap all over my yard" at some time in the future.

Ironically, a nearby runner deemed it necessary to make fun of the Toyota Highlander I was driving, telling me to "go back to Japan." ...maybe he didn't realize that there are Toyota plants in the US that employ US workers...

Besides the fact that public urination is illegal in any other sense, the fact he chose my lawn to relieve himself caused me concern, but not to the point I would fly off the handle.
What infuriated me is the smug attitude he and his fellow runners held, that they can do whatever they please, whenever they please, because they're "running a marathon," and all subsequent indecent behavior should just be excused.

After I reported the individual to a nearby police officer (because the runner would not identify himself) the officer approached the individual and obtained his placard #.

I'm still awaiting a response from the marathon people..

Good for you, Joe. Guys urinate in my yard all the time. I noticed one day that the tree most frequented had some poison ivy growing up the trunk & Joe, I've decided to just let that poison ivy grow,......... taller and taller and taller..... he he! Is that bad?
You know the thing about most marathons is that they don't serve the needs of the nieghborhood. Even the mini marathon before the 500 race serves no one but the participant who actually gets a medal for completion. Fine. But how about walking/running for a just cause? Like aids research or funding a cure for something. We should stop having marathons run through our neighborhoods simply because of those 2 guys. You don't think they'd get away with that if,.....wait a minute, if this happens so much how 'bout if we all start video taping and running the blended video on UTube! The theme song playing in the background would be.......hm...who's got an idea? Anybody??

Pissing in our yard is a regular occurance..It isn't right, but it comes with the drunks...

At least drunks have an excuse, and they don't have porta-johns at regular intervals.

I'm aghast. I can't believe people would be so blatantly rude. It would be nice to hear from some runners out there if this is commonplace behavior along marathon routes or just an isolated incident. There is no way I'd want them coming near our neighborhood again if it's commonplace - especially since I took my young children to watch the runners last weekend.

Also - what, he couldn't hold it for like five more minutes?? Or much less for 4-5 hours total until he'd finished running? Sheesh.

I hope they run again next year...I'll be hiding in the bushes with a super soaker full of urine...we'll see how they like it.
