The News, Talk, Sights and Sounds of the Warfleigh Neighborhood

Joe

Am I just new to the forum or is everything crime related?

I've only lived in BR (Warfleigh) for about 6 months, and it's quite disheartening to read the multitude of posts about the most recent break-in, burglary or assault.
Reinforcing doors & windows only goes so far...has it always been like this?
I understand what you accept living in a neighborhood so close to "the hood," but this is ridiculous.

Well Joe, statistically crime is either the same as or lower in Warfleigh than other similar areas. Although in the city crime anecdotaly seems to have increased versus a year or two ago, particularly for the winter months which tend to be slower. Blame the economy.
But you're right, there are an inordinate number of posts relating to crime. I take some of the blame since I use this site as a way to quickly let neighbors know whenever there's an incident. The benefit is that everyone can then be on the lookout for anything suspicious soon after something happens rather than weeks later when overhearing a conversation at a cocktail party - a friend of a friend. I'm trying to use whatever tools we have as a community to fight crime. As a result a lot of incidents are posted here just to keep people informed. Previously I've lived in neighborhoods where I'd be burgled only to find out months later that the same guy was hitting houses or cars systematically, and it could have been prevented if I'd known. So it's an effort to leave no stone unturned.

I'd love for there to be more posts about other things in the neighborhood and hopefully that will start to happen as we're working on the neighborhood picnic. But others need to jump in to keep non-crime related posts going. The website is in its infancy and is itching for more activity.

I understand that, and I'd rather be informed than not, I guess I was just venting along the lines that crime in general has been higher.
Drives me nuts.

Hi Joe - Welcome to the neighborhood! We, too, are worried about crime, but my husband and I wouldn't live anywhere else. We are 20 year residents of the area and have pretty much decided to stay here for 20 more (with luck :-). though it may seem that we are crime obsessed, I think what is happening in our neighborhood is pretty much reflective of problems throughout the city. On a brighter note, we've all noticed a heighented police presence in the neighborhood in recent months.

My advice - be sure you lock everything, when you are at home OR away, keep your garage door closed and locked and if you park on the street, don't leave anything of value in your car, even if it is locked.

Come to a Warfleigh Neighborhood Association meet at St. Paul's church on Meridian St., fellowship hall, second floor - Feb. 2 at 6:30 pm and learn about the good things going on in the neighborhood!

This reply is from Rocky Meyers. (on Claudia's computer) Joe, are you sure you live in Broad Ripple? TIP: If you are SOUTH of Kessler, you aren't in Broad Ripple anymore. Therefore, unless you're in Forest Hills, YOU are living close to 'the hood'. Sorry 'bout cha and whoever told you what to call your area of the city. They are probably still laughing at you.

What the hell are you talking about?
I'm right across from the levee....Warfleigh.

Technically south of Kessler is Meridian Kessler. Not exactly 'hood-worthy. And you're right Joe - south of the levee is Warfleigh.
Maybe I've lived in dicier neighborhoods than most, because I feel we live rather far from what I might consider the 'hood!
